Karkovský, Radek ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (advisor) ; Šuman, Záviš (referee)
In this thesis, the traces of minimalism, firstly the style typical for visual arts will be analysed in the work of Belgian novelist Jean-Philippe Toussaint. On the basis of the three novels - Bathroom, Camera and Making Love - will be explained what the literally minimalism is based on, especially in thematic plane, processing of protagonists, narrative style and spatiotemporal anchoring. This work will dissert on mysterious female characters and their characteristics, but also on bizarre behaviour of male protagonists. Among other things, the structure of Toussaint's simple stories will be analysed and compared with other works of French literature; especially the elements of the Nouveau Roman will be accentuated. We will not miss passages about the author's obsession of unknown places (foreign cities, small hotel chambers, taxis etc.) and about author's language humour which is so popular with readers worldwide.
